Questions about the 2027 awards

When are the 2027 Newbery and Caldecott winners announced?

On Monday, January 25, 2027, at 10 a.m. Central Time, at the American Library Association's Youth Media Awards in Chicago. The announcement is streamed live and needs no registration.

Which awards are announced that day?

The Youth Media Awards cover about twenty awards for children's and teen books. Besides the Newbery, Caldecott, Geisel and Batchelder, which this site follows, they include the Coretta Scott King Book Awards, the Printz Award for young adult books and the Sibert Medal for information books.

Can I guess the winners in advance?

Many libraries and schools run Mock Newbery and Mock Caldecott clubs in the autumn, where children read the year's strongest books and vote. The real committee's choices are kept secret until the announcement, and they are often a surprise.

When are the other big children's book prizes announced?

Canada's Governor General's Literary Awards are usually announced in November, Britain's Carnegie Medals in June, and the Children's Book Council of Australia's Book of the Year awards in August.
